I was privileged to be invited to work with the Royal West Academy to design and produce an exhibition view and night time experience to tie in with the “Drawn” exhibition under production company Paradise Hotel.
Royal West Academy is a breathtaking Grade2 listed building with opulent marble hallways, a vast terrace and stunning gallery spaces.
The 400 person event which I themed as Dream Garden opened with a daylight exhibition view accompanied by a string quartet. As darkness fell the building came alive with architectural lighting and otherworldly immersive entertainment which was designed to compliment the spaces features. A dreamlike narrative ran throughout the event and the space was animated by installations from ballet dancers, acrobats and physical theatre artists in stunning costumes inspired by Tim Walker and Alexander McQueen.
Throughout the evening guests were free to explore and enjoy the buildings spaces and such as The Drawing Lab which was transformed to a pop-up cocktail bar. Activities for guests to take part in which were in keeping with the cultural theme proved to be hugely popular especially life drawing and poetry readings.
The main challenges of this event aside from working around precious collections was managing a high production install in a tiny time frame, due to working with the galleries public opening hours.
