I worked with the Royal West Academy to create an immersive night time experience and exhibition view under production company Paradise Hotel. Royal West Academy is a breathtaking Grade2 listed building with opulent marble hallways, a vast terrace and stunning gallery spaces.
The 400 person evening which I themed as "Dream Garden" opened with a daylight exhibition view accompanied by a string quartet. As darkness fell the building came alive with architectural lighting and otherworldly immersive theatre characters which I designed to compliment the gallery's spaces dressed in costumes inspired by Tim Walker and Alexander McQueen. A dreamlike narrative ran throughout the event and the building was animated by installations from ballet dancers, acrobats and physical theatre.
Throughout the evening guests were free to explore and enjoy the building and including The Drawing Lab which was transformed into a pop-up cocktail bar. In addition to the performances, activities for guests to take part in such as life drawing and poetry readings proved to be hugely popular.
The main challenges of this event aside from working around precious collections was managing a high production install in a tiny time frame, due to working with the galleries public opening hours.
